April 21 (Wednesday): 8:00 pm. Welcome to the Civil War: Your Stake in the Battle Over Land Rights. Hosted by the University of Maryland Objectivist Club. Description: A vast political conflict in America pits neighbor against neighbor and permeates every corner of the nation. Each citizen -- at home, at work, at play, or simply traveling from place to place -- has vital interests at stake in the battles that rage all around. Are you building a house? Not if the neighbors object. Relaxing on your back porch? Look out for the eminent domain bulldozer. Operating a business? Beware the zoning officer. Visiting a public park? Make sure environmentalists don’t mind. Drilling for oil? You must be joking. In the civil war over land rights in America, the combatants struggle to influence the governmental machinery that imposes fines, penalties, and jail terms on fellow citizens. What we call property rights these days are not rights at all, only temporary permissions based on political compromise. The result? Dwindling freedom and slowing progress. This provocative talk by an experienced trial lawyer suggests a permanent way out of the land use wars -- a path to peace based on the radical political principles of America’s Founding Fathers and the revolutionary moral code of Ayn Rand. Admission: FREE. Open to students and the public. No RSVP required.

July 3 (Saturday): 76th Dundalk Heritage 4th of July Parade. Line up 7:15 am in the Logan Village Shopping Center on Dundalk Ave. The Libertarians will be meeting at the South end of the parking lot just past the last store. DO NOT park in the area from the middle of the lot to the street. That area is needed to line up the Parade. Park in the area near the stores. Our parade position is Red-3-17. Since they line up in Red, White, Blue sequence, that means we will be in the front section of the parade, finish early and miss the worst of the heat. Looking for someone who is willing to drive their open pickup truck. The MdLP has been in this parade for about the last 10 years. Need a vehicle to carry water, flags, signs, etc. for the marchers and a place to ride for those who cannot walk the whole way.
Fine print: 1. All units of the parade must keep contact with the unit in front of them. The parade must be in continuous movement with NO GAPS created by stopping along the parade route for extended performances. 2. Participants must adhere to the established lineup order and no change is permitted without consent of the Parade Committee Chairman. 3. Nothing can be given out along the Parade Route from curb to curb. (The route is defined as the Baltimore County permitted streets of the parade). This includes leaflets, business cards or the like, and especially no tossing out of candy. 4. All participants are expected to clean up their own debris from the lots and staging areas. (Streets along the route present a massive clean-up operation). Please do not leave litter. The safety of you and the viewers are our paramount concern. 5. NOTICE TO ALL MOTORIZED VEHICLES (CARS, TRUCKS, ATVs, MOTORCYCLES, 4 WHEELERS, etc.) Absolutely NO TRICKS or SHOWS of any kind are to be performed along the Parade Route. The dangers of an accident involving spectators and/or participants are too great to take such a risk. Please be cautious along the Parade route. There will be no warnings. Any violations may result in you or your organization being removed & excluded from future parade participation. 6. Each participant must be at the designated lineup area by 7:15 a.m. and must adhere to the established line-up order.
Directions: From the south - come over the Key bridge and use the first exit immediately after crossing the bridge. Left at the "T" and follow around to Dundalk Ave exit. Right on Dundalk Ave. Go all the way to the end of the parking lot before you try to turn in. The later you show up, the harder it's going to be to fight the traffic. This parade draws a CROWD! From the north - I-695 to Eastern Ave (toward the city) to Dundalk Ave (left turn) to Logan Village Shopping Center. Please let me know if you are planning to be there. Promote our candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor and our congressional candidates in Districts 2, 3 and 6. It all happens along Reisterstown Road, a.k.a. Main Street, a.k.a. MD 140. If you think you can put in some time either Saturday between 7 am and 6 pm or Sunday between 11 am and 5:30 pm, please contact us. Bill Buzzell and Lorenzo and Susan Gaztaņaga will start setting up the booth at Hannah More Park between 6:30 and 7:30 am and we need you there to help us set up. The park is at 12035 Reisterstown Road. You can get there by making a right off Reisterstown Road (MD 140) at either Hannah More Lane or Academy Lane. Our booth is #71 in Area 2, the northern part of the park. If you are just coming for the booth -- between 11:30 or noon and 6 pm on Saturday, or any time on Sunday, you will need to park at Reisterstown Elementary School, 223 Walgrove Road and walk to the park using the well worn foot paths. You get to Reisterstown Elementary School by turning right on Walgrove Road, PAST Hannah More Park and School.

PARADE: We form up for the parade at 8 am Saturday at Franklin Elementary School, 33 Cockeys Mill Road, and march down Reisterstown Road ending at Reisterstown Shopping Center (just south of the festival area). The gubernatorial candidate and the congressional candidates will be marching in the parade. If you get to the area early enough, you can park at Reisterstown Shopping Center and take a shuttle (provided by the fair organizers) up to the start of the parade. Or those of us who are at the booth early can try to give you a ride up. The important thing to keep in mind is that the parade route will be closed at 8:30, and there will be no way for you to get up to Franklin Elementary -- SO YOU MUST BE THERE BEFORE 8 AM. If you arrive between 8:30 and 11:30, just park in the Reisterstown Shopping Center (you won't be able to get to Reisterstown Elementary School) and look for our booth. If there is one hero of liberty willing to get to Hannah More Park before 7:30 and stay with the booth, we would greatly appreciate it. Otherwise, Bill will stay.
