January 11 (Saturday): Baltimore County LP social trip to the Charles Town Races & Slots in beautiful Charles Town, West [by G*d] Virginia. We'll plan to visit the slots and hosses for a while, then go as a group to a nice relaxing dinner, either at the track's buffet or somewhere else in the area. In order to arrive about 2PM and spend the afternoon there, we need to leave Baltimore County by not later than 12:30 PM. The trip is open to anyone who'd like to join us from wherever. If you're near Baltimore County, you can carpool with us, if you're not, you can meet us at the track at about 2PM. Unlike New Jersey's casinos and Delaware's tracks, the age for gaming in WV is 18.     WHEREAS Frederick Douglass (1817-1895) was a champion of the liberty of all people throughout his life;
    WHEREAS the life and person of Frederick Douglass provide to all of us an excellent practical, political, and moral example of libertarian thought in action;
    WHEREAS Frederick Douglass was born, raised, enslaved, and ultimately liberated in the Free State of Maryland;
    WHEREAS Terry Atwood, long-time Secretary of the Libertarian Party of Maryland and our friend and fellow fighter for liberty recently departed, likewise fought for freedom in the Free State;
    WHEREAS the life and person of Terry Atwood likewise provide to all of us an excellent practical, political, and moral example of libertarian thought in action;
    WHEREAS the Libertarian Party of Maryland is committed to the liberation of all Marylanders and all people from force, oppression, and enslavement;
    THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Party dedicate permanently the 14th Day of February every year to the memory of two Marylanders who fought for freedom against harsh odds: Frederick Douglass and Terry Atwood.
    AND BE IT RESOLVED that this Party dedicate all business and other activities of February 20, 1999, to the memory of Frederick Douglass and Terry Atwood.

We need all the help we can get. The pressure is on to ignore the wasteful spending of the Maryland government and rather than cut spending to increase taxes. The political courage of these legislators is amazing. This would have never had happened just a few years ago. We need to keep this sprit alive. We need to show them that we are behind them. May 3-4 (Saturday-Sunday): Towsontown Spring Festival. Festival runs on Saturday, from 10 am - 6 pm and on Sunday from 1 - 6 pm. We'll be in space #343 on Chesapeake Avenue this year, which, if I recall correctly is very close to where we have been the past several years, although it may be on the opposite side of the street. We're looking for volunteers to help set up, tear down, and staff the booth for various time periods. Shifts available are: Saturday morning setup: 7AM; Saturday morning 10AM - 2PM; Saturday afternoon 2PM - 6 PM; Mini-teardown 6PM-6:30; Sunday mini-setup: 10AM; Sunday early 1PM - 3PM; Sunday afternoon 3PM - 6PM; Sunday teardown 6PM. If you're available during any of those shifts, please let me know, and I'll be happy to add you to the schedule. June 15 (Sunday): 8:00 am - 6:00 pm. Pride festival at Druid Hill park (Baltimore City). Our booth is fairly close to the pavilion. Set up begins at 7:30, and the festival runs from 11am to 6pm. To help set up, I suggest we get there around 8-9ish, because it shouldn't take 3.5 hours to set up. Let me know what time you will be able to help. We need people both in the morning and afternoon. Activities: There will be volleyball games, horseshoes, hiking trails, and other activities throughout the day. There is a baseball/softball field that may be available for rental. If you are interested in playing a softball game during the day, please reply and let me know. The field will only be rented if we can find enough players for a game, so let me know as soon as possible!
Directions: From Baltimore: Take I-95 south to Route 32 East, and follow Route 32 directions. From DC: Take I-495 to I-95 north. Take Route 32 East, and follow Route 32 directions. From Frederick: Take I-70 East to Route 29 South. Take Route 32 East, and follow Route 32 directions. From Annapolis: Take Route 50 West to I-97 North. Make a right at the first traffic light onto Howard St., and bear left onto Baltimore St. Go through Savage to the end of the street, and turn right onto Fair St. The park entrance is straight ahead. The pavilion is behind the tennis courts.
Weather conditions: The event will be held rain or shine – we have a covered pavilion.
Cost: $10 if postmarked by July 7 (make check out to LPMD, or provide credit card information); $12 after July 7. Mail to Libertarian Party of Maryland, P.O. Box 2343, Annapolis, MD 21404-2343. No charge for just the Central Committee meeting.
Food: Typical picnic fare (burgers, hot dogs, chips, potato salad, soda, etc.) will be provided; some vegetarian options will be available. Contact Chip if you have questions or concerns. Alcohol is not provided, but you may bring your own.
Other Notes: Glass containers are prohibited – please do not bring any. All pets must be on a lead. Pets are not allowed in pavilions or on athletic fields, courts, or playgrounds. People are welcome to bring frisbees, kites, etc. Volleyball nets will be provided. Those interested will need to bring horseshoes, volleyballs, basketballs, or tennis equipment. Nothing can be "constructed" at the park (i.e. you cannot put up a badminton net).

You will have a chance to see our Governor and thank him for the spending increases and maybe tax increases. We plan to get there early and get a nice spot under the 7,000 sq ft pavillion so that we may be seen by all and eat with the oppressed masses. Wear a shirt with a Libertarian Logo.
