Libertarians Take Up Jeopardy Challenge
The Libertarian Party of Maryland, the state's largest third political party, has announced the formation of a speaker's bureau.
"On a recent episode of Jeopardy," said Steve Boone, the Party's Chairman, "none of the contestants knew that Harry Browne was our presidential candidate. If well informed people such as these don't know about us, well, we have a challenge."
The Maryland Libertarian Speakers Bureau intends to take up this challenge by supplying speakers to any group that wants one or any get together that needs one.
George Reynolds, a member of The Gunpowder Toastmaster's Club of Edgewood, is the bureau's coordinator. Mr. Reynolds emphasized that the bureau's speakers can and will talk issues but "I see our function more as supplying information rather than politics." he said. "We can't deny our political connections but people can make up their own minds after they are presented with the facts. The first thing is to let them know what libertarianism is and is not."
Maryland Libertarians expect the bureau to act as a two way conduit of information. Not only will the speakers perform an educational function, but they will obtain first hand knowledge about community issues.
"Our speakers run the range from students to retirees." said Reynolds. He thinks the variety of backgrounds and experience gives the bureau a keen capacity to fulfill its function.
